Retail Store Fixtures – To Whom to Advertise to…..?

We recently started a new division in Canada that sells retail displays (products like floor spinners, slatwall, gridwall and pegboard hooks, shelves and baskets etc.) We have been doing successful dot.com sales in the USA for these same products for over 7 years but are having a harder time attracting the Canadians to purchase from us (yes, we have opened up a warehouse in Canada so everything is priced in Cdn$ and there are no cross border costs).
We have been unsuccessful in dropping in on retailers and mailings to target markets. We are now approaching professional organizers (as many items can cross over to home and garage). We have a nice website (per customers comments) and a multitude of products shown(almost a mirror to our successful US site).
How do you get to the independent retailers opening up new store to let them know you are in the area? Any other suggestions on how to get more business local or national?

I can only share my own experience.
The decision to purchase this or that kind of fixtures is made on a projecting and designing stage (it applies to almost everything – from lightning and furniture to fridges and security systems).
So basically the trick is to make the architects or interior designers offer this equipment to their customers. Make some research which architectural or interior design companies work in the area you’re going to come – and voila! – make friends with them, give them good prices, good range, promo materials – and I think all of you will be happy sooner or later.
